In an open corner joint, two pieces are joined along one edge at a 90-degree angle but are not flush, leaving a V groove behind the joint. This “open corner” is then welded with a filler rod along the entire length of the joint.

All the while knowing the "general contractor" is skimming 10 to 20% off the top along the way. Gas over /gal can't be helping. There is a paper called The Parts Peddler from the east coast. Dedicated to roundy-round racing, I used to see guys come out with a neat gizmo every spring, run an add for the 'latest, greatest' and by fall same year, at least 1 other vendor had a lower priced copy or 'even MORE improved' version of same part/gizmo.
I love CNC machining, and I would pay someone to let me do it. I have a couple of Dyna-Mite 2400's right now, and when WESTEC rolls around next month, I am going to buy either a Haas VF2 or a Sharp 2412. Based on the on what our cost of machining is, as well as talking to our machine shop, you can easily get to a minimum of about /hr for a big expensive machine taking up lots of space and power. Guys with big routers, much higher end than the Shopbot, they tend to charge about 0/hr. Where you can make money is when you already have all the material and tooling needed on hand and snagging up easy parts as soon as they pop up on your job board which can be a time suck. I mostly use them as a back up during occasional slow weeks. We CNC machine parts faster than anyone else. Your online quote includes real-time pricing and DFM. Parts ship in as fast as 1 day. Economy lead time options are also available.
Often I'll charge by the piece; ya' know the kind; there's just no way I can charge my full shop rate on some jobs so I just take my best guess on what the piece is worth and go from there. My shop rate, including CNC time, is per hour. Sometimes I charge that, sometimes I don't.
